Below are some frequently asked questions
What is Pilates, And What Style Does Arc Pilates Offer?
Pilates was developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century. The method we teach is called STOTT Pilates—a method that honors Joseph Pilates’ original work that he created 100 years ago, while integrating the latest insights in physical therapy and exercise science. Our instructors are trained to modify for injuries and special populations—so you can feel confident knowing your Pilates practice will be intentional and aligned with your body and it’s needs.
Pilates focuses on strengthening the core, improving posture, and enhancing flexibility and balance. The method puts an emphasis on controlled movements, precise alignment, and breath work to build full-body strength, stability, and balance. Much of the work utilizes specialized equipment like the Reformer, which uses springs and resistance to target specific muscle groups. If you choose to work with us online, your workouts will be performed over zoom on the Pilates mat - and we typically send a recommended list of small props to add support and variety to your workouts.
Is it similar to Yoga?
While there are some similarities, such as mindful movement and breathing, Pilates is actually quite different. It places a greater emphasis on muscle strengthening and active stretching, and the apparatus that the practice uses makes it very unique to any other movement modality! Pilates is highly accessible for all bodies and can be tailored to support specific injuries, due to its strong alignment to physical therapy practices.
What Are Your Service Offerings?
We offer private and duet training, as well as reserved trios. At the heart of our approach is a commitment to creating a safe, supportive space for movement. How long are sessions?
Private and duet appointments are 50 minutes.
Do I need sticky socks?
We do not require sticky socks at our studio. We have sticky pads to use for traction while working on the equipment, but if you prefer to wear socks - it’s really up to personal preference! We also have sticky socks for sale at our studio.
